Guiding your child toward God!
From the book "Guiding Your Child Toward God" by C. Sybil Waldrop
"When a child has a need to discover, that is the best time to learn. When your wants to do what you are doing in the kitchen is the best time for you to encourage him to help. Mack wanted to work like his mother. Mother pulled a chair beside her near the cabinet and let Mack pull the lettuce apart and break off pieces for the salad. True, this took longer than if she had done it herself, but this was the opportune moment to follow the lead of a child. Whild slower, this was good economy of time. Mack is learning that he is a person with respect. He feels important because he can help; he can do it himself. His mother can use this natural situation to share a Bible thought. 'Mack, thank you for helping Mother. The Bible says, "Help one another." You have helped Mother by pulling the lettuce apart to help make the salad.' Then she softly sang, ' I ams glad God gave you hands so you can help make salad.' This lesson in helping and thanking God for hands was spontaneous and a teachable moment."
May we as parents take advantage of the teachable moments God gives us each day.
